Commonly known as sweet grass root, red licorice, powder licorice, American grass, dense sweet, dense grass, Guolao, fencao, sweet grass, sweet root, Glycyrrhiza glabra: the root is cylindrical, 25 ~ 100cm long, 0.6 ~ 3.5cm in diameter. The skin is not elastic and tight. The surface is reddish brown or grayish brown, with significant longitudinal wrinkles, furrows, lenticels and sparse fine root marks. It has solid texture, slightly fibrous section, yellowish white, silty, obvious cambium ring, radial ray, and some cracks. The rhizome is cylindrical, with bud marks on the surface and pith in the middle of the section. It tastes sweet and special.
