Cochineal Extract

1. Cochineal red pigment is a natural pigment extracted from the fertilized female cochineal worms growing on cacti. The main component is carminic acid.
2. The color of cochineal extract varies according to PH, ranging from orange to red. The strength of carminic acid is not very large, and when it is combined with aluminum ions, the color value will increase to form aluminum lakes. Cochineal aluminum is an aluminum hydroxide chelate of cochineal acid, a water-dispersible powder, easily soluble in water, but insoluble in alcohol and oil.
